The Meteorological Department warns that heavy showers and winds are likely in many parts of the island in the next few days due to the development of a depression in the Bay of Bengal.
This depression zone is developing between longitudes 06-16 east and 83-96 north latitudes to the northeast of the island.
The Meteorological Department warns that there will be an increase in rainfall in the North, North-East, East, North-West and Central Highlands as a result and has issued warnings to the public and the fisher communities.
The rest of the island will also be affected by rains and winds and landslides are likely in the mountainous areas.
This situation will more or less affect most parts of the island until the 22nd.
