The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) is scheduled to record statements today (16) from officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with a complaint filed by the relatives of former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director, Major General (Retd.) Suresh Sallay, alleging that he was subjected to torture.
The Commission has already recorded statements from several CID officers regarding the complaint. It has also previously obtained a statement from Suresh Sallay himself.

According to the HRCSL, Sallay is being detained in a general holding cell that has long been used to accommodate detainees at the CID. The Commission noted several basic shortcomings in the facility, including inadequate ventilation.
The Commission further stated that it has paid attention to the medical treatment being provided to Sallay, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday that the suspect is receiving the same standard of care provided to any patient at the National Hospital under the supervision of specialist doctors.
